My Plan For Tustin
Austin is running for Mayor because he wants to continue serving the community he and his family cherish. Tustin is a special place and Austin wants to keep it that way. Not many towns share old town charm and agricultural legacy with opportunities for new construction and economic growth. Austin will continue his work to protect our way of life and to highlight our charm while encouraging strategic upgrades to our infrastructure and streetscapes. As your Mayor, Austin will continue to work tirelessly to bring Tustin into its next-generation while honoring our Tiller and military roots.
01
Business & Nonprofit Support
As your Mayor, Austin will seek partnerships with Tustin’s business and nonprofit community to both support them and to help revitalize our great town – without putting the cost on our residents’ backs. Mayor Lumbard will continue to lead the effort to encourage local economic growth. Tustin has such great people committed to making our town better. Austin believes we can change the divisive tone in this country if we each focus on our own backyards and come together in collaboration.

02
Dynamic Development
Prior to serving on the City Council and as Mayor, Austin served on Tustin’s Planning Commission. During his time on the Council and Commission, he has deliberated over Tustin’s development and pushed for positive change and progress. Austin has presided over major infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects throughout Tustin. Three strategic development initiatives:
Tustin Legacy: Mayor Lumbard has taken the lead on removing the County from decades of inaction with the North Hangar, pushing forward the development of dynamic office space, and developing vibrant residential communities. He has delivered on plans to open Tustin’s first dog park and is leading plans for vast open space on the base. Tustin deserves a faster, better plan for the base, and he will fight to get it done.
Revitalize Old Town: Austin has delivered on plans to beautify Old Town and he will continue to promote public art, events like the summertime Sunset Markets, vacant lot development, and increased parking.
Optimize Redhill and Newport Corridors: Synchronize traffic signals to improve traffic flow, underground power lines where possible, and enact policy to address vacant/blighted lots. Tustin’s small-town charm and warmth stand out in Orange County. Austin wants to celebrate what makes Tustin such a great place to live.
03
Great Schools
Austin believes the hallmark of any great city is its schools. Tustin is fortunate to have quality schools, but we must continue to strive for the best. Schools are a family matter to Austin. Four of Austin’s children are enrolled in Tustin’s schools. His nieces and nephews attend Tustin schools. Austin has supported opening Heritage Elementary and Legacy Magnet Academy which are now providing innovative and cutting-edge education to our kids. As your Mayor, Austin will bring that fighting spirit to push Tustin’s schools to greatness. Our children and grandchildren deserve it.

04
Public Safety
Sadly, crime statistics are up across the state. Unwise state legislation has led to increased public safety challenges. While our men and women in uniform are brave and determined to keep us safe, we need to give them the support they need to do their jobs effectively.
Austin’s philosophy is simple, the first priority of government is to protect the people. Austin’s experience as a reserve deputy with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department gives him a unique perspective on the challenges we face as a community. He also currently represents Tustin on the Orange County Fire Authority board of directors. His time in uniform and on the OCFA board have shaped Austin’s understanding of the challenges our police and fire personnel face every day.
As your councilman and current Mayor, Austin has fought to keep Tustin safe to protect our quality of life: he supported increasing Tustin PD’s sworn personnel to effectively serve our growing city population; he supported establishing a Behavioral Health Unit within the police department to address the mental crisis with compassion and skill, and he will continue to work to minimize our emergency response time and protect our northern edges from wildfire risks.
05
Quality of Life
As your Mayor, Austin will continue his work to protect our quality of life. He will work to keep crime out of Tustin and to improve our sense of community throughout the City. Austin will work to beautify our streets through focused maintenance and improvements, and through adding public art and greenspace throughout town. Mayor Lumbard will continue his efforts to protect our single-family neighborhoods while providing housing options for folks of all means and abilities. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful city full of people willing to help. Mayor Lumbard plans to continue exiting partnerships and build new alliances aimed at bringing our entire city up to its potential. This can only be done when we work together. Let’s keep each other healthy, happy, and safe.
